Arch IJsei treated with Duplex Route

December 2011 – IJsei is the name used for all the work alongside the IJ River to the north of Amsterdam's Central Station. Building work started in April on the arch covering the bus station. This arch was treated with the Duplex Route: hot-dip galvanised by Verzinkerij Heerhugowaard and powder coated by Poedercoating Heerhugowaard.

The spectacular arch of glass and steel is 360 metres long and 60 metres wide, and 22 metres high at its highest point. The steel structure consists of 29 arches of welded tubes interspersed with girders and glass supports. The glass roof is located on top. The glass was developed specially for the arch and it is moulded into shape during the assembly process.

Steel and glass

Hollandia from Krimpen aan de Ijssel made the steel structure. The tolerances were extremely critical. Every millimetre counts when putting the class into place and the critical limit throughout the arch was no more than five millimetres. To protect the arch against corrosion, it was treated using the Duplex Route: Verzinkerij Heerhugowaard hot-dip galvanised the steel structure before Poedercoating Heerhugowaard applied two layers of powder coating. So in the future, passengers will be sheltered from the elements as they wait for the bus.
